I think he'd have been much better off leaving "For The Money" out of it.....
On another note, the author drives a Mitsubishi EVO with "full aero" (His words, not mine).
It's a decent article, but the car choices are decent at best. All of those would cost a lot to buy and a lot to track prep. IMHO the best "Track Car For The Money" would be a Spec Miata. They regularly pop up on Craigslist at $8500ish around here and it's already track prepped for you. I can't imagine much more fun for that much cheaper. Maybe an R53 Mini with a ton of mods......

I'd call it "Best Track Cars For People With Money."

Stock Fiesta ST with upgraded brakes. Literally all you need. You'll have the time of your life.

It originally was "The best track cars to start out with". He then went and dismissed a bunch of posts stating how shit the list was, except for mine weirdly. Maybe my support for FWD saved me as he thought he could make me look a fool for supporting FWD. Man all those stars are pretty nice though.
It then got FP'd and all the MX5 Fans came flying out which was fun.

Yep none of them are cheap, nor all that good value. Was pretty esoteric, should really have been titled "cars I'd like to have as a track toy". It's a crime that got FP'd considering the good content that gets shunned on here. Suppose clickbait page views or whatever dictated.

Honestly, an R53 Mini is MUCH more fun than my Z32. The fact about a "weaker" FWD car is you're closer to the limit more of the time than with a RWD car. The closer you are to the limit, the more fun you're having, simple as that!

Too much shit gets FP'd now a days.....

The main problem with articles like these is that everyone has different priorities and likes in a car. For example, some people prefer lighweight, low center of gravity, and a high rpm band a la Cayman, FRS/BRZ, Miata etc... Some people want something with a high hp/tq # and and prioritize that over other things, and some people want the best of both, or a mix, or something completely different. These articles are more to initiate conversation then to be an actual list imo.

Yep. It's a problem since you get people writing specifically to cater to the FP and others who just want to make good content getting little recognition.

It might have been FP'd because the discussion over it was good, not the content itself. It wouldn't be the first time a "disagreeable" post was FP'd in order to get more people to discuss the topic.

thisthisthisthisthisthisthisthis times 1000.
There are two kinds of posts:
1. People making a post based on an observation trying to have some friendly banter between Opponauts about a common interest. These posts kick ass and don't make it onto the FP as often, but that's okay as they're what make Oppo Oppo and it's nice to have something for ourselves sometimes.
2. A whole wave of people who now see Oppo as their avenue into auto journalism. Poorly written, pandering pieces that reek of desperation and frippery, designed only for the sake of trying to generate praise and a promotion to the FP to start a budding (awful) career in auto journalism, or to promote one's own crap website. These posts do not kick ass, yet manage to wind up on the FP with regularity.

Not even though.. I'd definitely put a E36 over a E46 for the track, and it'd be cheaper, then again.. that buddy of mine that is a autocross and time attack champion drives a E36, so I might be biased..then again, he does shit on R8's and ACR Vipers..with a N/A E36.. admittedly, he got it a bit right with the C5 though, one of the best track cars for the buck for sure.

They're all pretty cheap as far as cars go, and ...did you just say good value about a track car article?? O.o ... track cars have no value if you turn them into track cars..so, that's a silly way to look at it

I recently tracked a Focus ST on stock brakes. It was almost the worst time of my life when I cooked the brakes and almost crashed the shop car into our other shop car that was ahead of me...
But I still have an awesome boss who let me take the shop car out when my car broke, so I can't complain that much. And it was a sweet little car to drive while I had brakes.

You must have a very different definition of a cheap car than most people....

more like - expensive taste and a decent income, lol

Yep, it's crazy how many think they have a shot at journalism through this. Of the ones who got hired, tavarish already had his own website, doug was already a writer elsewhere, not sure about tom mcparland but he was already a car buying consultant so theres that.

Yeah, the E36 would be cheaper, and for some reason I'd feel more comfortable ragging one than an E46, But in general, the list doesn't' cover many options for those who are working on a budget. :)

I've heard the Fiesta consumes it's brakes at a much slower rate than the Focus. I went to two track days before I cooked my brakes.

This.
The amount of truth here is skyrocketing, there are way too many people who always are trying to make it to FP just because ONE of their posts made it there, so why not try again half a million times.
